Paper Kiss sculpture

Effortless Paper Kiss sculpture, hand-folded by the artist from a square of watercolour paper

This sculpture is completely unique, it is created freestyle and so the form appears at the whim of the artist, in the moment. The paper sculpture is created by easing curved folds into a sheet of dampened watercolour paper. As it dries, the sculpture stiffens and its form is captured. The form is soft and sculptural and almost has the appearance of carved stone. This technique, a particular soft folded paper portrait artform is one of a kind and was invented by the artist.

Polly Verity creates these paper sculptures, as seen on the BBC documentary about Polly’s work – “People amazed I fold paper for a living, then they see it”. Although the process might appear effortless, it is honed by years of experience working with the medium of paper and employs both technical and observational skills that have been developed over the years.
Polly is the daughter of Simon Verity, who was one of the most defining and influential master stone carvers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
