Paper Face
Folded by hand
Paper face sculpture created purely by folding a dampened square of Arches watercolour paper. The technique allows for a softness and a subtle sculptural quality as though the piece had been hewn from stone.

Description
Low relief Paper Face, hand-folded from a square of watercolour paper.
This sculpture is completely unique, it is created freestyle and so the form appeared at the whim of the artist, in the moment. The paper sculpture is created by easing curved folds into a sheet of dampened watercolour paper. As it dries, the sculpture stiffens and its new form is captured.

Its very tricky to fold the paper into a convincing front view face. This piece is a result of the artist refining a close-up of the front on face portrait, working within the topological constraints of the paper to achieve a softness and convincing features almost as though carved from stone. This piece a particular favourite of the artist.
